The Virtuosi is an international music festival that takes place in Recife/Brazil since 1998. Consecrated in the Brazilian musical scene as one of the most important classical music festivals in the country, the festival makes in a week an extensive music program focusing on contemporary works, on the coming of world-renowned musicians, on the presentation of works by Brazilian composers and on the premiere of new works.
Through different series, the festival features more than 40 concertos in 7 days. With a new and unusual proposal, merging the popular manifestation with the traditional, the Virtuosi offers a program with about 30% of new works. Born to be a chamber music festival it has grown throughout its history and fits no longer in the original idea. The Virtuosi opens its range of action making the festival in different towns such as Joao Pessoa, Olinda, Belém and Recife. The festival also goes to Gravatá and Garanhuns taking classical music to many different corners of the state.
Since 1998, the festival has invited very known artists such as Antonio Meneses (cello), Ilya Gringolts (violin), Judith Ingolfsson (violin), Mikkel Futtrup (violin), Monique Duphil (piano), Christian Lindberg (trombone), Gilles Apap (violin), Suren Bagratuni (cello), Kim Bak Dinitzen (cello), Catalin Rotaru (bass), Stephen Prutsman (piano), Victor Asuncion (piano), Valeria Stenkina, Alexander Timchenko, Regina Rustemova (Singers from Mariinsky Theater), The Miró String Quartet, The Penderecki String Quartet among others.
