The ASTORIA ensemble specialises exclusively in the works of Astor Piazzolla, transcribed and adapted by the accordionist Christophe Delporte.
Astoria brings the Argentine master's exquisite writing to the fore, preserving all the bewitching rhythmic and melodic charm of the original versions.
Made up of five artists, all graduates of Belgium's Royal Conservatories, international competition winners or members of leading orchestras, Astoria has established a strong identity through the rigour, energy and emotions communicated by their performances.
For ASTORIA NUEVO, the group is rounded out by Jennifer Scavuzzo's marvellous voice and the talents of bassist Philippe Aerts and guitarist Laurenzo Dimaio. Together with these seven musicians, Christophe Delporte revisits a new repertoire, which Piazzolla wrote together with the poet Horacio Ferrer. The 'songs' from the Piazzolla-Ferrer collaboration that are best known to the public include Chiquilín de Bachín, Balada para un loco and Maria de Buenos Aires.
This living, vibrant music speaks of love, pain, hope and melancholy and will sweep you away in a maelstrom of feelings. Astoria Nuevo takes you on a journey from the suburbs or Buenos Aires, through scorching plains and tropical vegetation.
As an accompaniment to ASTORIA NUEVO, the dancers Monika and Dante Dominguez bathe in the waves of Piazzolla's sensual sounds and etch in vigorous strokes a choreographic tableau of proud nostalgia and bodily seduction.
